February Fishing Report-2019

February INSHORE

The name of the game for inshore fishing around the Gulf Shores – Perdido Key areas is Redfish, Sheepshead, and Trout. Occasionally Black Drum can be found in the deeper water around the jetties and bridges. There are a few Pompano hanging around the beaches as well as a large number of Whiting (on a good day). While fishing inshore, use live shrimp and fiddler crab as bait. These will make a big difference in your catch. With water temperatures remaining  below the 60 degree mark, we are all really looking forward to warmer weather showing up so we can chase Mackerel and Cobia up and down the coast line!

With these low water temperatures we have been having, you can expect to find most of the action on the bottom. The last week of January we took a 6hr. Offshore trip resulting in over 200 Mingo Snapper. With Blackfin in sight of the beach and Yellowfin hanging around the rigs. “Those dedicated enough to try may very well be in for a treat, if you’re willing to go the distance on a bigger boat” is my answer to all those who ask. Fishing is decent when the weather cooperates. The wind was not  our friend during the 2nd part of duck season. We did contend with several small craft advisories during January but as we move through February and in to March, I do expect those to slowly dissipate.
