Panama City Beach Fishing Report for June 2025

Summer 2025 Fishing Report – Panama City Beach

Welcome back to another exciting summer fishing season in Panama City Beach! As always, summer remains the busiest—and most rewarding—time of year for charter fishing captains all along the Gulf Coast. So far this season, we have seen a relatively mild start to the weather compared to years past, with fewer windy days and more favorable tides. June is shaping up nicely with calm mornings and the occasional afternoon shower—perfect conditions for getting out on the water. Whether you’re chasing redfish inshore or heading offshore to pursue pelagics, this is prime time to book your trip. We highly recommend scheduling your charter early in your stay to leave plenty of flexibility if Mother Nature decides to throw a curveball.

Inshore

Inshore fishing around Panama City Beach continues to produce solid action heading into June. Redfish and speckled trout remain the main players, especially around structures near Highway 98 and the North Bay bridge areas. That said, many anglers are finding success on the grass flats, and that bite should stay consistent throughout the month.

During these warmer summer months, redfish and trout respond best to topwater plugs during the low-light hours of early morning and just before sunset. Look for activity around the grass flats surrounding the small islands in the bay. While catch rates have been strong, the number of keepers in the slot sizes is slightly below average, so be sure to check the latest size and bag limits at MyFWC before hitting the water.

Nearshore & Offshore

Late May and early June continue to usher in Sargassum grass along the nearshore waters and beaches—a sight some beachgoers don’t love, but a welcome sign for Gulf Coast anglers. These floating mats provide the perfect cover for Mahi Mahi, cobia, and more.

This year, we have already seen strong mahi action nearshore, with fish ranging from smallchickensto larger bulls pushing 30+ pounds. Sea Striker spoons and fast-retrieve hard baits have been doing the trick along the grass lines. And don’t be surprised if you hook into blackfin tuna, tripletail, or even a rogue wahoo while you’re out there. Offshore variety is excellent this time of year, so be sure to let your captain know your target species in advance—whether you’re after meat fish or a trophy catch.

Piers & Beaches

Just like years past, Panama City Beach’s piers and beaches have been a go-to for anglers who prefer to stay land-based. While we’ve had some early-season surf swells, conditions are expected to stabilize throughout June. Reports indicate pompano and whiting are still the top catches, with the occasional cobia cruising through.

Standard pompano rigs with fish gum, shrimp, or sand fleas are all productive right now. Keep an eye on areas where the Sargassum is not as thick—lighter grass areas tend to yield better results. Also, be sure your rigs are weighted properly to hold in place during choppy surf conditions for better bait presentation.
