Duck Hunting Report 2018-2019

Duck Hunting Forecast 2018-2019

It’s cold. It’s much colder than expected right now in Orange Beach. Not only is it cold in Orange beach but it’s been freezing everywhere north of the Alabama Coast. Therefore, pushing some good numbers of Redheads down sooner than expected. In fact, on opening weekend we did witness a healthy mixed bag coming in to the decoys. When we were in Missouri two weeks ago we had 4 days of freezing rain and snow. The Ducks Unlimited Migration Map (get it here) is reporting a solid season opener in the prairie pothole region of the Great Lakes. While the hatch count is lower than last years, it’s still above the 15 year average.

Positive Forecast

“Diving duck hunting remains good if not excellent on the big water with hunters reporting limits of redheads, canvasbacks, bluebills, buffleheads, and long-tailed ducks on Lake St. Clair, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, as well as on large inland lakes.” – Kay Anglin Ducks Unlimited

We are not saying that the duck numbers are higher this year but the evidence does show that there might be a solid mass of divers headed south sooner than we have experienced in years past.
