Charleston, SC – June Fishing Report
Welcome back, Lowcountry Sportsman!
We’re excited to bring you a fresh fishing report from the historic waters of Charleston, South Carolina — and June is shaping up to be an excellent month to hit the water. With water temps rising and baitfish flooding the estuaries, both inshore and offshore bites are heating up across the board. Whether you’re casting from the marsh, cruising past jetties, or venturing offshore, now is the time to get lines tight.
Inshore Action
Charleston’s inshore fishery is firing on all cylinders this month. Redfish are tailing hard on the flood tides, especially around grassy flats and oyster points near Isle of Palms and Folly Beach. Early mornings and evening tides have been prime for sight-fishing these bruisers with live mud minnows, cut mullet, or topwater plugs.
Speckled Trout are showing up in strong numbers, especially in deeper grass edges and creek mouths. As the shrimp hatch continues, artificial shrimp under popping corks have been putting serious numbers in the boat.
You’ll also find Flounder holding tight to structure — think docks, rocks, and creek junctions. Gulp! soft plastics on jigheads and finger mullet have been top producers. Don’t overlook Sheepshead either — they’re still staging around pilings and oyster rakes, especially near the jetties.
Nearshore & Offshore Bite
Nearshore reefs and wrecks within 10 miles of the beach are alive with action right now. Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish are feeding aggressively in bait balls, making for exciting light tackle fun. Trolling Clark spoons or casting flashy jigs into the frenzy gets fast results.
For those heading farther out, the offshore bite is wide open. Dolphin (Mahi) and Blackfin Tuna are cruising the 40-60 mile range along temperature breaks and weed lines. The occasional Wahoo is also in the mix — and billfish season is just getting started.
Bottom fishing has been stellar as well. Snapper season opens June 1, and anglers are already reporting solid numbers of Vermilion Snapper, Grouper, and Triggers on deeper ledges and natural bottom. The big story? Amberjack are holding strong on offshore wrecks — and the fight is worth every drop of sweat.
Beaches & Piers
From Sullivan’s Island to Folly Beach, surf fishing is delivering steady action. Whiting, Pompano, and slot Redfish are being caught on classic surf rigs with fresh shrimp, Fishbites, and sand fleas.
Charleston’s piers — like the Folly Beach Pier and Mt. Pleasant Pier — are solid bets for Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish, and Bluefish, especially around sunrise and sunset. Got your eyes on something bigger? The shark bite is hot right now. Use heavy tackle and fresh cut bait like mullet or jack crevalle, and post up in the evening when the tide’s moving.
Final Word
With summer patterns locked in and fish chewing across every zone, Charleston is an angler’s paradise this June. Whether you’re chasing tailing Reds at sunrise or battling pelagics offshore, there’s something biting — and it’s biting well.
