Alabama Fishing and Hunting Report- April 2023

April INSHORE

We have finally decided to hit a streak of consistently warm weather here on the Alabama coast. Finally the patterns have started to even out and the Gulf Shores – Perdido Key areas are balancing between the 70’s and 80’s. Once we have a consistent water temp averaging in the mid 70’s the King Mackerel will come in to near shore waters along the beach. However, the Pompano, Spanish, and Ladyfish are already flocking to the beach in droves therefore making this a great time for some surf fishing. In addition, larger Redfish and Speckled Trout are starting to school up. If your inshore fishing adventure keeps you away from the beach and in the bays, cruise the waters around the 5ft mark. Here you will increase your outcome of a successful fishing trip. Fly fisherman have been known to love the opportunity that spring provides the Orange Beach area.

April OFFSHORE

Kings and Cobia have started moving in and the Triggerfish are taking up the reefs (so are the sharks). Offshore fishing this time of the year can be hindered by rough water but take advantage of those breaks in weather to score big on your fishing opportunity. Trolling the coast for kings on a 4hr. afternoon trip is a favorite among those looking for something different.

April HUNTING

As spring sets in, the hog hunting action heats up. Hog dog hunting takes place in the early AM and is typically productive this time of year. For those of you who are more into the ‘night life’ our Night Vision Hog Hunting is always a blast. Don’t’ worry bowhunters. We have you covered too, check out the Bowfishing video in this report.
