Personal Info:
My name is John Owens, I have been tournament fishing for the past 13 years. My career started by fishing local tournaments on the Coosa river chain with my dad and close friends. I started fishing competitively in high school fishing for spain park. Fishing BASS, ASABFA and MLF tournaments. After high school fishing I started fishing 2-3 trails for about a year then I got the opportunity to fish at Snead State community college. I won my first college tournament on Lake Dardanelle at the AFTCO Collegiate Bass Open in Arkansas along with many tournaments after that. Guiding has always been a dream of mine and I can’t wait to start this journey.
My Boat:
I run a 2017 Nitro Z19 powered by a mercury 200. My electronics are two Hummingbird helix 9s and a Lowrance HDS carbon 12. I use a minn kota Ultrex on the bow of the boat and there are two minn kota 12 foot talons.
Lakes I Fish:
I fish all over but I cut my teeth on the Coosa river chain. That includes Logan martin, Lay lake, lake mitchell, and lake Jordan.
Target Species:
The Coosa river is well known for the spotted bass and big largemouth bass. The big spots are one of the hardest fighting freshwater fish there are. Big largemouth are fun to catch especially when fishing grass or out deep on a ledge.
